The Minnesota Veterans Home Campus in Hastings, Minnesota, consists of many buildings built at various times to provide services for veteran residents. Studio Five Architects worked on the last of three phases of Infrastructure Improvements, which will be completed in the fall of 2005.
Infrastructure Improvements Phase III involved remodeling work at five different campus buildings. Each building required different amounts and types of work, ranging from tuck-pointing to major remodeling of residents rooms, showers, and cafeteria spaces.
The Administration Building, shown in the drawings on this page, required the most extensive work, both interior and exterior. The 1970remodeled exterior of EIFS was removed and a new facade was created with brick and stone, to better match the historical character of the campus. To improve the appearance of the exterior all glazing was restored to its original 1948 size. The majority of the roof was removed, and raised approximately three feet to accommodate a new HVAC system.
Studio Five Architects completed the design and construction documents for the remodeling of Floors B, 1, and 3 of the State Administration Building, which is now
The project commenced with detailed programming work with the various departments occupying the building. Multiple meetings were held with each department to confirm their current and future employee counts for space planning and usage. Analysis also was done to determine which departments needed convenient public access for a first floor location. Departments were reorganized within the building and space was planned to meet their future needs.
As a part of the remodeling process, the building was significantly upgraded with code improvements, ADA, fire and life safety improvements, as well as updated ceilings, indirect lighting, voice/data, flooring and wall finishes.
The project was completed in February 2008.
